Driving to Paihia is generally a 3 to 4 hour drive by car, depending on the conditions and time of year. Schedule your route, and take your time to get here, and plan for plenty of rest stops, so that you are refreshed and ready to start your holiday when you arrive up here in the beautiful Bay of Islands!
The most direct way is to go via the East Coast Highway, by staying on the Northern Motorway, as you leave Auckland. Just do not forget to pay your Toll Fee once you get back from you holiday up North. For more information about the Toll Road click here
There are plenty of great stops along the way; such as Puhoi Valley, Eutopia Cafe, Waipu Caves Track, McLeod's Pizza Barn, Hundertwasser Toilets to name a few.
Taking a flight is the fastest way to get yourselves up to the Winterless North. The flight is 40 minutes in duration, departing from Auckland and landing in Kerikeri. Kerikeri Airport is about 25 minutes drive from Paihia. Prebooked Taxis can be organised to drive you, alternatively hire cars are available. Visit Air New Zealand for more information about flying into Kerikeri.
Sit back, relax and let someone else worry about the driving. Catching a bus will get you to the Bay of Islands in approx. 5 hours, and there are several trips leaving from SkyCity Bus Terminal, in Auckland, each day.
Check out Intercity for information about the Bus Schedules
